In compliance with L.A.R.S. 33:2333, the city can dispose of non-contraband property that has been in the Property Management Bureau longer than 150 days. If you have property on any published list, the city asks you to present proof of loss and ownership. Any property not claimed within two weeks of notice will be disposed of in accordance with R.S. 33:2322.

Claims must be made in person at the Shreveport Police Department Property Management Bureau, 825 Hope Street, Shreveport, LA 71101. All claims are reviewed by the assistant chief of police or the Property Management Bureau sergeant. They check the validity of the crime report and find out if insurance already paid for the loss. You will get a response by return mail.

Types of Shreveport Unclaimed Money

The state holds many types of unclaimed property for Shreveport residents. Checking and savings accounts top the list. Uncashed checks from employers, vendors, and government agencies are common too. Life insurance payouts, securities, and safe deposit box contents all end up with the state when owners lose touch.

The state does not hold real estate or vehicles. Those fall under different rules. For impounded vehicles in Shreveport, you need proof of ownership (title or registration), picture ID (driver's license preferred), proof of insurance if registered in Louisiana, and a city marshal's release if tickets were written. Vehicles are released only to the registered owner or an agent with a notarized statement.

How to File Shreveport Unclaimed Money Claims

Claims through the state portal are free. Find your match, click claim, and submit proof of who you are. A copy of your driver's license works as a start. The state may ask for more documents depending on the claim amount.
